It’s recommended that you schedule a routine check-up and professional cleaning at least twice a year, or every six months. This allows us to eliminate any plaque or bacteria built-up in hard-to-reach areas your toothbrush simply can’t get to. Dental exams also prevent additional oral health problems, like cavities, gum disease, and even tooth loss.

During a regular cleaning, we’ll also give your teeth a detailed polishing so you’ll leave our office with a fresh smile ready to show off. If you’ve had any gum problems or infection, our dentists may suggest coming in more often for additional cleanings to help maintain your oral health.

We suggest scheduling your child’s first dental visit around the ages of four and six months. During this stage, children’s primary (baby) teeth become erupted, or when they begin to show through the gums. Their first visit is targeted toward educating children on the importance of dentistry and how to practice proper oral hygiene at home.

Maintaining good oral hygiene will ensure your teeth and gums are in the best of health. This means brushing at least twice a day, flossing daily, and rinsing between meals. It’s also important to see your dentist for cleanings and exams at least twice a year. This allows us to eliminate any plaque or bacteria from building up, and prevent cavities, gum disease, and more.

In addition, Dr. Nguyen recommends the following tips for optimal teeth and gum health:

• Avoid smoking and tobacco products
• Use a therapeutic mouthwash to rinse between meals
• Use a fluoride toothpaste and soft-bristled toothbrush
• Look out for signs of unhealthy gums or gum disease
• Maintain a healthy, well-balanced diet
• Address teeth grinding, or bruxism

Most insurance companies will cover all or a portion of the cost for an oral appliance, but some many not.
