Are you interested in scuba diving? If so, then it is important that you make sure to see your dentist before any big trips because you are at risk for Diver's Mouth Syndrome. This happens when your scuba mask does not fit properly in your mouth, leading to pain in and around your mouth.

By coming in and seeing us, we can make sure that your mouth is healthy prior to you going out. That way, if you start to notice pain or problems, you know that it is coming from the mask, and not your teeth.

Where Diver's Mouth Syndrome Comes From

Diver's Mouth Syndrome comes from two distinct parts of the sport of scuba diving. First, the use of the mouthpiece when you go under water. This causes your jaw to stay open, which can lead to a lot of pain in your jaw. The pain can appear while you are underwater, or when you come back up after your dive.

Second, it can also show up after the pressure that change while you dive down and return to the surface. Usually, this causes pain in your teeth, but it can also lead to gum problems.

The constant changes in pressure that go with diving down deep and returning to the surface can hurt the different tissues in your mouth, and lead to pain when you are not scuba diving as well.

To find out more about Diver's Mouth Syndrome, come in and see us. We can check the condition of your mouth prior to your diving trip, and look again when you get back if you are experiencing any type of pain.

Call us today, and schedule an appointment to have us check your teeth. The more we can check your teeth before and after your trips, the more problems we can catch before they leave you in pain.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call us at (510) 883-3454 today.
