If you are of a certain generation, a root canal used to be terrifying depending on your dentist. Maybe they didn’t use enough anesthesia, or it wore out before the procedure was completed. Whatever the case, those traumatic dental experiences may have affected your relationship with your dentist for the rest of your life.
Dentistry has changed a great deal in recent years and the main focus is on the patient’s comfort. If you haven’t been to the dentist in a long time, you may be surprised when you set foot in our office. There is no shaming or embarrassing remarks. We try to make you feel as comfortable as possible for a root canal, or any other procedure you need.
Should I Be Worried About Getting a Root Canal?
The short answer is no. While the idea of getting a root canal is frightening for many people, there is nothing to fear. The dentist will numb the area where the procedure will be done, and you will not feel a thing.
The worse part is, the numbing doesn’t wear off for a few hours, but other than that there is almost no pain associated with getting a root canal.
How Long Can I Expect a Root Canal Procedure to Last?
The length of the procedure depends on the severity of the problem, but in general, start to finish, a root canal takes about an hour. The dentist must wait for the mouth to be numb and then once the hole is drilled, the infection has to drain. You will spend more time waiting for those things to happen.
There is no need to be afraid if you need to get a root canal and if you have a good dentist, they will put you at ease.
