Did you recently experience a situation where one of your dental crowns simply fell off? This can be a little nerve-wracking because you may not know what to do.
It can also worry you because you think that your mouth is about to be in excruciating amounts of pain. T
he first thing to do if a crown falls off is to try and remain calm. Next, retrieve the crown if possible, and call our office. We can help.
Dealing with a Crown That Fell Off
Should you happen to have a crown that fell off, you need to do what you can to try and retrieve it. If we can simply cement the crown back in place, that is ideal.
That means no waiting for you to have a new one created, and no extra expense of that, either. If your crown is broken, chipped, bent, or otherwise unusable, then a new crown will have to be ordered and a temporary one will be put on in its place.
Next, until you can get in to see us, make sure to eat and chew carefully on the tooth that is missing the crown. If your tooth is painful without its covering, use a bit of dental wax in the area to cover the inside of the tooth, and chew on the opposite side of your mouth.
We will get you in to see us as soon as possible so we can check out the crown, tooth, and the whole situation. Contact us as soon as possible following your crown falling off.
The sooner we can get the inside part of your tooth recovered, the less likely you are to experience pain, and the easier the treatment will be all around.
